Prandtl Number (Pr)

Did you know the Prandtl number matters when it comes to heat transfer?

 If not, let us explain.

Prandtl number (Pr):

A parameter used in calculations of heat transfer between moving fluids and solids.

To calculate, multiply dynamic viscosity with the specific heat of the fluid, then divide the product by thermal conductivity of fluid.

To simplify, a good Prandtl number means:

  • More efficient heat transfer (high conductivity

  • Lower parasitic pump loads, less wear on circulation pumps (low viscosity)

  • Improved Coefficient of Performance

Our Thermal Xcellence range of heat transfer fluids are not only non-hazardous, but they really are thermally excellent!

Higher performance capacity = reduced energy costs.
